Ph.D thesis

Guiem's thesis was on "a theoretical analysis of certain types of nonlinear evolution equations with applications". The aim of this thesis was to contribute to the quantitative analysis (existence and uniqueness of solutions) of nonlinear differential equations and partial differential equations, with concrete and interesting applications in engineering and epidemiology. During this enriching experience, he had the honour of working under the supervision of two eminent researchers, Prof. S.C. Oukouomi Noutchie and Dr. R.Y. M'Pika Massoukou, who guided and supported him in his quest to understand mathematical complexities and their relevance in the real world.

Master dissertation

Guiem's master's thesis was entitled: “Mathematical modeling of the diffusion of resistance to an antimalarial drug”. This dissertation aimed to contribute to the understanding of the spread of drug resistance, which is a key issue in the fight against malaria. Taking into account the spatial and temporal aspects, he proposed a mathematical model for the spread of resistance in Plasmodium species that are partially and fully resistant to chloroquine. He also determined the basic reproduction number, a threshold that allowed him to identify the parameters that condition the spread of parasite resistance in humans. He went on to find the expression for the speed at which resistance to the malaria drug concerned spread. This dissertation introduced him to the world of mathematical modeling. Guiem had the honour of working under the supervision of Prof. D. E. Houpa Danga, from whom he learned scientific rigor and a sense of a job well done.
